What to expect at your appointment

At Complete. Physio Exercise Performance you can expect a thorough assessment for your sporting injury. A consultation starts with getting to know you, your current injury and your history. You’ll then be guided through some testing to determine your strength, mobility and function to accurately diagnose your injury and the cause. From here, the rehabilitation process begins, starting with an explanation of your injury, how it may have occurred and timeframes with expected return to sport. Our clinicians will then discuss the various treatment options that may be suitable for you, including a rehabilitation program addressing any functional impairments or deficits identified in your initial assessment.

Assessment of Injury

During an assessment, our clinicians will assess your general movement, which may include sport specific movements including running if your injury allows. They will also look at other functional movements such as squats, lunges, calf raises etc. depending on the injured site. More specifically, they will also look at range of motion, strength and structural/clinical testing of the injured area. This will help with diagnosing the injury and creating a rehabilitation plan for you.

Depending on the injury and the outcome of your assessment, medical imaging (X-ray, MRI, Ultrasound), or onward referral to another clinician (Sports Doctor, Surgeon, Dietitian, Podiatrist, GP) may be discussed with you. Our clinicians can refer for most medical imaging on the spot if required.

Sports Physiotherapy Treatment

There are a wide range of treatment modalities that our Physiotherapists and Myotherapists utilise. These can include:
  • Exercise rehabilitation
  • Return to running or activity exposure plan
  • Taping/Bracing
  • Soft tissue massage
  • Joint mobilisation
  • Shockwave therapy
  • Dry needling
  • Cupping

Exercise Rehabilitation

Exercise rehabilitation is the core treatment for any sports injury. Along with promoting early tissue recovery, exercise rehabilitation is also vital in building strength and capacity in injured tissues and surrounding areas, and the prevention of future injuries. Based on your assessment, our clinicians will develop a rehab program with exercises specific for you and your condition. These may be completed at home, in your gym, during the session with your clinician or in supervised exercise rehabilitation sessions we offer in our well equipped gym.

Return to Sport Testing

Returning to sport can be a very exciting time post injury. It is important to try and reduce the risk of re-injury. To try and mitigate this risk, our clinicians at Complete. will design a return to sport testing battery around you and your goals. All testing is compared between limbs, and to normative values to give a picture of return to sport readiness.

Prevention

In order to reduce the risk of re-injury, our clinicians will also provide advice and information around how to prevent a re-occurrence of injury. This may mean you are provided with some preventative exercises to continue implementing within the gym, or it may include specific warm-up or activation exercises to complete before games or training.
